چکیده

Background Mood-Congruent Memory (MCM) is defined as the observation that a given mood tends to enhance the encoding or retrieval of target events that are similar in valence or mood. Mood induction has been used to study MCM in the lab. Two common methods are the Velten Mood Induction Procedure (VMIP) and the Music Mood Induction Technique (MMIT). A potential problem with VMIP is it may lead to demand characteristics because subjects are explicitly told to feel a certain way. With MMIT, there is currently controversy over whether the music (melody), the lyrics, or their combination are most effective at mood induction. However, not all combinations have been systematically tested (Table 1). Further, previous research has either used pre-existing songs, which decreased control over the variables, or the music and the lyrics were presented to separate modalities (listen to music and read lyrics).

سوگیری حافظه ضمنی و آشکار در بیماران مضطرب و افسرده

Williams, Watts, Macleod and Mathews' (1988) model of anxiety and depression leads to the prediction that anxious patients will show mood – congreuent implicit memory bias, while depressed patients will show mood-congruent explicit memory bias.Although this prediction has been supported by some researchers (Denny & Hunt, 1992 mathews, Moog, et al , 1989 watkins, et al, 1992), the reliability ...

Amygdala reactivity and mood-congruent memory in individuals at risk for depressive relapse.

BACKGROUND According to cognitive diathesis-stress theories, a latent cognitive vulnerability to depression is activated by negative affect in individuals at risk for depressive relapse. This vulnerability can manifest as mood-congruent memory during sad mood and may involve amygdala response, which is implicated in memory for emotionally arousing stimuli. This study examined whether amygdala m...

Mind Your Music: The Effects of Music-Induced Mood and Arousal Across Different Memory Tasks

The current study examined the effect of background music on different types of memory. One hypothesis is that background music modulates the listener’s internal mood and arousal, putting them at optimal levels to enhance memory performance. Another hypothesis is that background music establishes a “context” that, when reinstated, aids memory performance. To investigate the role of music-induce...

Brain mechanisms for mood congruent memory facilitation.

Emotional information is better remembered when mood at the time of retrieval matches it in valence (positive mood, positive material). An associative memory model predicts that this 'mood congruent' facilitation is due to the mood-related reactivation at retrieval of emotional responses which were linked to valenced information at encoding. To test this model, we presented subjects with positi...

Using Signal Detection Theory to Investigate the Impact of Mood Induction on Emotional Information Processing in High BAS/BIS Individuals

Objective: The main objective of this study was to investigate the explicit memory bias in the people with high BAS/BIS sensitivity in the different manipulated mood states.  Methods: By using purposive sampling method, seventy-four participants (undergraduate students) were selected based on z-scores of 480 using the Carver and White’s BAS/BIS scale. They were distributed as: 24 wi...
